Students and staff at Jordan High School were placed under lockdown Tuesday afternoon after authorities responded to reports of a possible weapon on campus, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office and Durham Public Schools.
School officials confirmed that the lockdown began shortly before 2:45 p.m. as law enforcement officers moved quickly to secure the campus and investigate the reported threat. The incident created concern among parents, students, and community members as emergency procedures were activated to protect everyone inside the school.
Authorities said deputies responded immediately after receiving information regarding a possible weapon at the school. During the response, officers conducted investigations on campus while students and staff remained inside classrooms under lockdown procedures.
Aerial footage captured by local media later showed law enforcement activity surrounding the school while deputies continued their investigation. Officials have not yet publicly confirmed whether any weapon was recovered or if any arrests were made in connection to the incident.
At this time, no injuries have been reported, and officials continue working to determine the credibility and circumstances surrounding the report. School administrators and law enforcement agencies have urged families and community members to remain patient while the investigation continues.
The lockdown at Jordan High School comes only weeks after another lockdown incident at the school on April 22. During that earlier event, authorities later confirmed that no weapons were found on campus before the lockdown was lifted.
Tuesday’s incident once again raised concerns about school safety and emergency preparedness within the Durham community. Parents anxiously awaited updates as students remained secured inside the building during the investigation.
Officials with Durham Public Schools said safety remains the district’s top priority and that lockdown procedures are designed to protect students and staff whenever a potential threat is reported. Authorities have not yet announced when normal school activities will fully resume or whether additional security measures will be implemented following the incident.
As the investigation remains active, officials are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact local law enforcement authorities. Additional updates are expected once investigators complete their review of the situation at Jordan High School.
